Surrounded with arable scenes and rugged peaks immortalised on canvas, Mas Jaisses is located a few minutes' drive from the celebrated village of Eygalières and just eight miles from the bustling market town of St Remy-de-Provence.
Known as 'les Alpilles' or 'little Alps', this craggy landscape has provided a safe-haven for settlers for millennia, including the Romans, who controlled passage through the peaks from their imperial city of Glanum. It is the same dramatic scenery which captivated artists such as Van Gogh, who lived his later years in St Remy, and Robert Louis Stevenson in his 'Travels with a Donkey'.
The growing cachet of Eygalières, with its delightful 17th century Chapel, is perhaps most noticeable through the increasing popularity of some of its bistros. Equally, the nearby villages of St Remy, Les Baux and Maussane, all have quintessentially Provencale main squares, shaded with plane trees and surrounded with busy restaurant terraces.
