The Colonial House Information
The Colonial House is the very last authentic colonial home still standing on the Northern coast of Mauritius. It has remained in the same family ever since it was built, and has been faithfully restored together with its original antique furniture in 2011. It is a privilege to live the Colonial House experience.
The huge 1888 cast-iron gate of the Colonial House opens onto its manicured tropical garden, filled with flowers, palm trees and hundred-year-old flame trees. The view from the huge terrace overlooking the Indian Ocean is quite spectacular. From there you can watch the sun rise to your right and set to your left above the Northern Islets of Mauritius. The private white sand beach is particularly calm; you are usually all alone all day long.
The main façade is North oriented so that the sun pours in all day long. Thanks to the high thatched roofs and high ceilings, the broad rooms of the Colonial House are cool at all times. Filled with its priceless original antiques from the late XVIIth to the early XXth century, the house is a unique reminder of the glory of the colonial era. The Colonial House is one of a kind in the Indian Ocean.

Please note, children under the age of 12 years are not permitted unless agreed with the owner. Barbecues, firecrackers, fireworks and candles are strictly forbidden. Smokers must ensure their cigarettes are extinguished correctly. Furniture must not be moved and must not be exposed to the rain and sun.
Price is based on exclusive occupancy of the villa for 7 nights for up to 8 guests. Flexibility in arrival/departure days and shorter stays. Discount for 2-4 guests, please enquire for rates.
20% Security Deposit will be required.

The villa sleeps 8 people very comfortably; it comprises of 4 double bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (all with marble vanities, two basins, shower and toilets)
• Bedroom 1: 500sqft, canopy bed 2X2m, lots of storage space, vanity, 6m high ceiling, air conditioning; en suite bathroom (big shower with skylight and garden view). Satellite TV with French channels and CNN. View is of the pool & ocean
• Bedroom 2: 300sqft, canopy bed, living area, thatched roof, cupboards, vanity; en suite. View is of the garden
• Bedroom 3: 210sqft, vanity, cupboards. View is of the ocean; bathroom across. TV and DVD player
• Bedroom 4: 400sqft, vanity, cupboards, en suite, big shower with bench, view is of the beach & ocean
Location
The Colonial House is in Pointe aux Canonniers, on a secondary road (the Coastal Road) which is very quiet.
The property is a 1h 30 min drive from the airport and 30 minutes from the capital city, Port Louis. Take a 5 minute drive to the heart of Grand Baie village, where there is superb shopping, food and wine at l’Epicerie Gourmande, numerous restaurants.
You are a 5 minute walk from 2 supermarkets, a good wine cellar (La Cave de St Tropez), a bookshop, 2 charming cafes - Roots (South African lady) and Esprit Libre (Canadian couple), a 24/7 private emergency clinic, pharmacy.
A great place for scuba diving (extremely professional divers well known in the Indian Ocean, with top equipment). Diving World - Francois and Chrystelle Besson (5 minute walk) – not available between Christmas and New Year and Blue Water Diving - Hugues Vitry (5 minute drive) – book in advance for December; Rate is EUR35 per dive, add €10 for equipment; 1 free dive every 5 dives.
