Area Description

Mallorca, also known as Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearics, offering fantastic countryside which can be enjoyed on foot, bike, car or by boat. It is possible to drive from one end of Mallorca to the other in just over an hour and so the whole island beckons to be explored. The dramatic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range in the North west is fantastic for hiking and cycling. For those striving for something a little more relaxing, the sleepy ancient towns and rural fincas of inland Majorca are the perfect antidote.

Puerto Pollença in the North East is a working fishing port offering wide sandy beaches and a charming assortment of pavement cafés with breathtaking sea views. The warm shallow waters of the bay make it ideal for families with small children. For shoreline sports such as snorkelling, windsurfing or even kite surfing, look South and East for quiet and unspoilt beaches.

The capital of Mallorca and the whole of the Balearics is Palma, which is a vibrant city bustling with life and culture. When approaching Palma by air, the first recognisable landmark will be the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral. Here you will also find a classy mix of upmarket shops, restaurants and bars, plus plenty to inspire from the Arabic baths of Moorish origin, to the Joan Miró foundation and an impressive collection of work from the many local artists drawn to the island.

Soller and Deja are located on the coast, they are small arty town’s, Soller is famous for it’s leafy squares and church designed by Gaudi. This is the essence of Majorca, a place of breathtaking landscapes and culture ready to be explored and enjoyed and the impossibly picturesque villages of Deía and Valdemossa. Since the Catalan kings in the early fourteenth century, these villages have long been home to a plethora of writers, artists and musicians, drawn by the peace and tranquillity, natural beauty and long sunny days.

The old Roman town of Pollença lies ten minutes inland from the port and presents a wonderful jumble of narrow, cobbled streets and pretty, tree-lined squares filled with restaurants and cafes. The legendary Sunday market is a kaleidoscope of local produce and offers anything from local fruit and wine, fresh fish from the morning’s catch, to handmade leather goods and jewellery.

One of the smartest resosrts in the island, Cala San Vicente is only a short drive across the mountains from Pollença and presents three enchanting sandy beaches and a fabulous choice of places to dine. Fishermen still work from the beaches and dinner comes fresh from the sea.

Alcúdia is a medieval town with perfectly restored city walls enclosing a maze of narrow streets that burst with life from every corner. Alcudia offers an enchanting collection of market stalls, eclectic boutiques and vibrant restaurants. There is a constant buzz down at the cosmopolitan marina and time seems to stand still from the cool shade of a pavement café, as sailors busy themselves to the soundtrack of mast lines chiming gently in the wind.
